On Thursday, June 20th, the Novato High School Project kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction for two new state of the art buildings. Both buildings will be built with parallel schedules, with the Center for the Sciences building opening in the fall of 2020, and the Center for the Arts building opening early 2021.
The 20,000 sq. ft. Center for the Sciences building will allow students to study biology, chemistry and physics in a collaborative, dynamic environment. There is extensive new lab casework being installed in this building along with folding glass classroom partitions, skylights and large sectional doors that allow access to outdoor learning areas. Each of these components will contribute to the presence of natural light in the building. Prior to the Sciences building starting, the existing portable classrooms will need to be moved and set up for the 2019/2020 school year.
The Center for the Arts is a 22,000 sq. ft. theater building with two seating levels, gallery space, classroom/greenroom spaces, dressing rooms and a gala entry hall. The balcony style seating will support district-wide arts programs, as well as Novato High School’s Marin School for the Arts.
